Dates: November 21 (Crazy Chemistry), December 19 (Forces and Motion), and January 16 (Human Body)

Crazy Chemistry: (Flubber and Elephant’s Toothpaste)

The students will be able to:

  • observe how heat energy transfers to different objects through conductivity
  • explain the building blocks of matter, atoms, and molecules
  • distinguish between a physical and chemical change of matter

Forces and Motion: (Catapults and Popsicle Boy)

The students will be able to:

  • Describe how force affects the motion of a projectile.
  • Explain and compare the meanings of accuracy and precision.
  • Explain the optimum angle for launching a projectile the farthest distance.
  • Understand what the center of gravity (COG) means and how to find the COG in two-dimensional objects that are shaped differently.

Human Body: (Blood Typing and Wound Healing)

The students will be able to:

  • Understand that blood is essential for human life and has many important functions.
  • Understand how much blood we have in our bodies.
  • Describe the composition of blood.
  • Understand that it is impossible to create blood in a laboratory, and why blood transfusions and donations are so important.
  • Use models to learn biological processes involved in wound healing.
Refund Policy: Lab fees are due upon registration.  Labs are not held on inclement weather days and will be rescheduled.  If a student is absent from a Lab, no refund will be issued.
